Potter Environmental a division of Potter Pumping Services Ltd began servicing the Thunder Bay area in 1970. The foundation of our business was built on providing efficient, reliable quality service, relying on hard work, innovation, and a commitment to safety, the environment and our customers who help us grow. From that small septic service company, we have evolved into a complete waste management and industrial service provider.
Recognizing a need to collect used oil in a safe and environmentally sound manner, we expanded from the septic service business to an oil transporter and recycler. In 1993 we became Thunder Bay's most comprehensive licensed transfer facility for the collection and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. Today, Potter Environmental safely collects Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste materials, categorizes, bulks these waste materials utilizing a 960,000 liter tank farm which contains a water oil separator, drum processing facility, use oil filter processing, and automotive plastic recycling and has the ability to melt and processed contaminated snow.
Potter Environmental offers complete around the clock Emergency Response Services (24 hours a day, 365 days a year) for Industrial and Commercial Companies which include hazardous releases on both land and water; including train derailments, trailer rollovers, fuel spills, tank overflows, ruptures, unloading spills and chemical spills. In addition Potter Environmental is a listed Emergency Responder on numerous Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP). We deal directly with the Ministry of Environment (MOE) on our client’s behalf regarding Emergency Generator Numbers and to inform them of spill cleanup progress. Our company is 1 of 3 CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) approved site that is able to clean international equipment that is entering into Canada.
Potter Environmental’s complete care service also extends to administrative customer service in hazardous and non-hazardous waste. We offer expertise in HWIN management to administer Generator Registrations, Form 2B Completions, Renewals, Registration of additional waste classes as well as managing your HWIN account on your behalf. We also offer expertise in Waste Class identification, Manifesting, Stewardship Ontario issues, Household Hazardous Waste Events and compliance to Ministry of Environment (MOE) regulations.

Safety and Regulatory
Potter Environmental a division of Potter Pumping Services conducts regular maintenance service on all equipment in our fully equipped service department. Staff training is mandatory for equipment operation and emergency response. We have Team Leaders and Team Members trained on responding to all Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) classes; 1 Explosives, 2 Gases 3 Flammable Liquids, 4 Flammable Solids, 5 Oxidizing Substances, 6 Toxic and Infectious, 7 Radioactive, 8 Corrosives, and 9 Miscellaneous products. Regular site safety sessions are part of normal operations, and job site "tailgate" safety meetings are mandatory. A commitment to ongoing training for all personnel is maintained with scheduled annual requirements for safety and compliance issues. Potter is monitored by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Transport Canada. Potter also conducts independent third party safety reviews on an annual basis.
